Welcome to the Vision
and Orientation & Mobility Program
Visually impaired
students receive services from itinerant teachers for the visually
impaired as well as orientation and mobility specialists, where
appropriate, within their home schools. Services are provided to
students, parents, and staff members through consultation and direct
instruction to address vision needs as identified on the students’
IEPs. Services are provided on a 1:1 basis and occur within the
students’ schools and their home communities.
Students receiving
services include those who are totally blind and those whose vision,
even with correction, adversely affects their educational
performance. These students often require instruction in concept
development, daily living skills, the use of adapted
materials/equipment (such as Braille, large print books, books on
tape, and various forms of assistive technology), organization,
learning through an alternate sense, and travel.
